Apprentice Photographer

Our apprenticeship role is currently filled but please do check in with us at mail@fisherstudios.co.uk for updates if you feel you could be our next apprentice!

Fisher Studios provides an official apprenticeship supported by the UK Government and funded by the Apprenticeship Levy. We work in partnership with JGA Group, an apprenticeship organisation who provide the educational framework for a Level 4 qualification, the equivalent to the first year of a bachelor’s degree.

The apprentice’s role is to assist our photographic team with all aspects of work from photography to postproduction. Our nurturing environment will provide you with an excellent opportunity to learn and grow within a creative team.

What will the apprentice be doing?

• Providing general assistance, in the studio and on location.
• Carrying, setting up and packing up equipment.
• Assisting with the post-production workflow.
• Client and subject care during shoots.
• Anticipating the photographer’s needs and allowing them to work as efficiently as possible.

What training will the apprentice receive and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

This is a Level 4 Apprenticeship. The apprentice will receive monthly tutor-led 1-day seminars remotely, supported by a skills coach who will spend between 1 to 1.5 hours with the apprentice every 6-8 weeks, to help embed their learning. All teaching is conducted remotely and undertaken from our studio during normal work hours.

In addition, the apprentice will receive practical on the job experience as they are immersed in all aspects of a busy photography studio. This is where the true value of doing an apprenticeship lies as the apprentice is offered a quality of learning that academia can’t compete with.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

After completing the apprenticeship, the apprentice may decide to pursue their own career in photography as a freelancer, or apply for a permanent position with Fisher Studios as a photographer’s assistant and/or photographer.

Annual wage

£13,312 per annum for the first 12 months, reverting to Oxford Living Wage if aged 19 years or over, until completion of apprenticeship qualification.

Working week

Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm.

Expected duration

18 months
