Just six months from my return to photographing American Football I found myself applying for press accreditation for Britbowl XXXVI, the championship weekend for the British American Football (BAFA) season at Butts Park Arena in Coventry.
I photographed two games on the Sunday – Nottingham Caesars V Rushmoor Knights for the Division 1 Championship and Bristol Aztecs V London Warriors for the Premiership Title.
The entire day was full of energy and emotion, with Nottingham Caesars winning the Division 1 game and London Warriors taking the Premiership title. There was great support from the crowd, fun half-time activities as well as prize presentations after the games. It really was a jam packed day.
It was fantastic to meet so many amazing people from the American Football community coming together for the biggest showcase of the sport in the UK. With Flag Football being added to the 2028 Olympics the interest in the sport has never been bigger, and it appears to be growing and growing. I look forward to attending again in years to come!
I took a decent haul of equipment with me, but it was worth it. Having the longer lenses for the action shots, the primes for more candid moments and the zooms for everything else really worked well.
