Whilst in Malawi, working with volunteers from the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH), David had the opportunity to visit a coffee plantation, several hours drive from Lilongwe and to visit Lake Malawi.
These particular images were taken in order to illustrate the beauty of Malawi to entice more volunteers to be involved with the BSSH’s voluntary work in Malawi.
Although Malawi is a small country relative to African standards, this is also its appeal. It is well-known for its smiling, friendly people and it’s extraordinary freshwater lake, Lake Malawi, which dominates this landlocked country. Whilst Malawi’s 11 national parks and wildlife reserves offer activities like game-viewing, hiking, mountain biking, and bird-watching. It is also well known for the high quality coffee it produces, despite it’s small size, relying on a small network of coffee cooperatives and 5 large estates, which are located primarily in the south.
