The Cowley Road Carnival has been on a five-year hiatus, but it is finally back!

Cowley Road has a rich history of culture and diversity, and the carnival celebrates this heritage.

The day kicks off with various processions that walk the very short length of Cowley Road, followed by an array of performances and DJ sets, along with a abundance of delicious food from around the globe!

The carnival hasn’t taken place since before the pandemic, so it was a delight to see it return. Although attendance seemed lower than in previous years, the energy was high, and the excitement surrounding the carnival’s comeback was notable. The weather forecast predicted rain and thunderstorms for the day, but by some miracle, the skies cleared, and the sun shone throughout the event.

On a side note, some of the DJ sets were incredible! It makes me wonder where they are the rest of the time. Oxford’s nightlife, particularly the rave scene, is in dire need of revitalisation, but clearly there is potential. I would love to know what these DJs are up to for the other 364 days of the year.

We are always keen to get involved in the local events around Oxfordshire, visit our Event Photography page to find out more.
