My first encounter with American football came back in 2012 during my first year at University – Kent Falcons at home vs Cambridge Pythons. I remember it well. Both my first time seeing American football in person, and my first time photographing it.
Thirteen years later and there I was, standing on the field at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a commission for the New York Jets for the NFL London Games.
The journey from the muddy Park Wood pitches to the glitz and glam of the NFL at Tottenham was actually kick started in early 2023, when I began contributing to the Oxford Saints – The UK’s longest running American Football team. From there I was able to meet some of the local football community, earning me a media credential for Britbowl 2024 – the highest level of competition for the British American Football Association (BAFA) I also took this opportunity to reach out to the Oxford University team, The Oxford Lancers as well as meet and photograph the NFL Academy during a visit and joint practice with the Lancers.
Focussing on the stories of the players, especially the two Millsap scholars of 2024/2025 season really ignited my creativity and love for the game, both on and off the field.
Which brings us to The London Games, I was ecstatic to hear we’d been asked by the New York Jets to photograph events surrounding the game vs the Denver Broncos as well as photograph stadium activations, fan interactions and corporate interests during the game.
