Having your headshot taken can feel daunting to some, but it does not have to be. Here are our top tips so you can arrive feeling fabulous and leave with headshots that you love.

A major part of your headshot is your clothes. Before your session, think about which colour, style and level of clothing formality best represents you. Most importantly, choose an outfit you feel comfortable in, as you don’t want to feel restricted.

Our recommendation is to keep it simple with the cut and style of your outfit. Play around with colours, but avoid patterns.

Strong Posture

Feel free to move around from pose to pose during your session. Allowing your body to move naturally will translate better in photographs. All you need to remember is to sit up straight, keep your shoulders back and keep your chin in a neutral position.

Before you go to your session, practice in the mirror to get a sense of which pose you like the best.

Facial Expressions

When it comes to your expressions, try your best to keep them as natural as possible. You can achieve this by breaking out into a laugh and then letting your face falter. Again, we recommend that you practice this in the mirror before you arrive, so you know the expressions you like best on yourself.

If you’re struggling with this, the most important thing to remember is to let your smile reach your eyes – this will distinguish your expression as genuine and bring out your eyes in a way that photographs beautifully on camera.

The photographer is there to work with you! Through all your prep work, you will know what you like and what you don’t. Let the photographer know your preferences so you can leave with your best headshots.
