Today Reuben and I were invited to attend Saïd Social’s International Women’s Day. It was a fabulous event brimming with positive energy. There were cup cakes, burgers, decorations, stalls promoting products made by women all over the world, speeches, singing and of course lots of photography.

International Women’s Day (IWD), is celebrated annually on March 8th, and honours the achievements of women across all aspects of life – social, economic, cultural, and political – while also advocating for gender equality. The celebration has occurred for well over a century, with the very first one held in 1911.

Reuben covered the event whilst I manned a photo booth complete with purple backdrop and signs for subjects to hold related to the day – see some images below of us working behind the scenes!

Whilst International Women’s Day is a celebration and acknowledgement of how far we have come as a society it also highlights the challenges and issues we have yet to overcome like wage gaps, gender based violence and employment opportunities. One thing that was great to see was the male representation at the event who were there to support and be a part of the festivities.
