As the days grow longer and the air grows softer, the Somerville grounds begin to shift almost imperceptibly at first, then more noticeably with each passing day, revealing colour, movement, and life in every corner.
This change begins with the first signs of bloom. Across the borders and lawns, tulips, daffodils, and early blossoms start to emerge, bringing bright, delicate patches of colour to the carefully tended gardens and gently marking the transition out of winter. The quads feel calm and structured, offering a sense of stillness and balance, while the wilder corners show a more natural, effortless surge of growth. Throughout it all, wisteria and blossom begin to soften the stone buildings, framing them with cascading colour and texture that subtly changes the feel of the architecture itself.
As the landscape comes alive, so too does its wildlife. Thrushes move through the gardens, nesting in the carved niches of the stone buildings, as spring quietly settles across them.
