When I used to BMX I would see the world as a playground for the sport. Constantly looking for potential spots to ride or imagining the transition of a kitchen sink into massive half pipe to ride up and down. That perspective has stayed with me, albeit less frequently. But I’m still seeing hand rails or slanted walls and thinking “that would be fun”.
Climbing is something I’m new to, but I imagine it’s the same thing. You start to look at a wall and think “I could climb that”. Which is something I wanted to explore with this shoot. If I gave a climber a stool and asked them to climb it, how would they interact with it and would they see it as more than just a stool to sit on?
The following images are from a test shoot in the studio with Charlotte, our product photographer, who is also a regular climber at Gallery Bouldering, a brand new climbing centre, located just behind our studio. I hope to continue this project with more subjects found here.
